Why Should You Show Up Authentically on the Internet?

In today’s digital age, social media has become an integral part of our lives. It’s a platform where we can connect with others, share our thoughts and experiences, and build our personal brands. However, the pressure to present a perfect image online can be overwhelming, leading many to hide behind a mask of inauthenticity. In this blog post, we’ll explore why it’s essential to show up authentically on the Internet and the benefits it can bring.

The Challenges of Being Vulnerable Online

There are definitely days and times when I don’t feel like showing up and being vulnerable. And talking about what’s on my mind or what it feels like to be a vulnerable human or a human in the world today. And sometimes I just want to squirrel it away. Honestly, on those days, I tend not to show up on social media, as I’m sure people have noticed. It can be exhausting to show up and be truly, authentically you.

It can also be even more exhausting to force yourself to show up as authentically you by showing what’s behind the veil. Still, it helps to show up by being honest and vulnerable when you don’t want to be. Even if it’s for the sake of making content and your business or for the sake of being a person on the Internet. It really is kind of a battle of touch and go, and it can really drain you.

Building a Brand Around Your Authentic Self

One of the main reasons to show up authentically online is to build a brand around who you really are. If you build a brand that’s based on authenticity, you are getting to know people on a deeper level, and people are getting to know you on a deeper level. You’re not attracting people out of falseness and out of a mask and fake being fake. You are actually truly attracting people that vibe with you on the same level, and I think that’s really important.

Inspiring Change Through Vulnerability

Here is another great reason to be vulnerable on the Internet. I fully believe that the collective moves forward into the new paradigm based on authenticity and vulnerability. If we truly show up as ourselves we push the collective forward. That means you might be showing up vulnerably in one corner of the world, and someone in their corner of the world sees you. They may be on the opposite end of the country but it could inspire them. They may end up being more authentic and more vulnerable in their own local world or their corner of the Internet. The Internet is just a game of telephone. What you choose to put out into your game of telephone ricochets around the world, through your country and community, and then through the collective. When you put out authenticity and realness, you’re inspiring the same in others.

The Power of Representation

Lastly, the third reason why I say that you should be vulnerable on the Internet is representation. People don’t know that there is another option, that there is the option to be vulnerable, to be themselves, and to choose not to wear the mask anymore. We’re so conditioned throughout our early years to wear that mask and show up as someone else. If you show up online, where you may have the most radiating impact–and you do that without the mask on but with your authentic self–you are making such a big difference for everyone who sees you. People often say, “Whoa, they’re doing that. I didn’t know I could do that. They’re being authentic. I didn’t know that was an option!”

And maybe you showing up without your mask on gave someone else in the world a reason to live. And how awesome is that? How important is that? It’s so important and so magical and so necessary.

Conclusion

Showing up authentically on the Internet can be challenging. But it’s essential for building genuine connections, inspiring change, and representing the power of vulnerability. By choosing to be real and authentic online, you are attracting people who truly resonate with you. And also giving others permission to do the same. Your authenticity has the power to create a ripple effect of positive change in the world–which is magical and necessary.
